Three steps to start

Your mission Move your ship beneath the fortress and break all six castles.

  1. Launch

    Start with the control listed for your console. On Vectrex, choose Easy for a gentler first game.

  2. Open a path

    Move left or right and fire upward. Make holes in the shields, then shoot through them to break the castle bricks.

  3. Stay out of danger

    Dodge falling bombs. Use side shots against tanks and move away from warned beams in later castles.

  • Analog left/right: move the ship.
  • Lower Fire: shoot upward; Upper Fire: side shots.
  • Start: begin; Pause: pause/resume.
  • Reset, then Start: replay the historical ending.
  • Enhanced title keypad 1/2/3: Classic/Enhanced/Digital control profile.

Edition note The enhanced release defaults to Enhanced controls; Digital helps keyboard/digital-adapter input. Those profile choices are not promised for the historical edition.

Emulator setup Atari800: Atari 5200, NTSC, 32K cartridge. Configure its analog/button mapping if needed.

Emulator keys depend on your button mapping. These are console controls, not claims of real-hardware testing.

  • Stick left/right: move the ship.
  • Button 4: start, shoot upward, replay.
  • Button 2: choose Easy/Normal on title; shoot left during play.
  • Button 3: shoot right.
  • Button 1: pause/resume.

Edition note Normal is the default: bricks take multiple hits and later castles have more shield rows. Easy uses one-hit bricks and the gentler original rules.

Emulator setup Load the VEC, wait for the Vectrex startup, then press Button 4.

Emulator keys depend on your button mapping. These are console controls, not claims of real-hardware testing.
